Action updated!
There are 400 million toys unused and unloved in homes in Britain. There are 21.5 million households in Britain, so that's roughly 19 toys per household.
There are around 400 million forgotten toys in the UK. Unused. Unloved. Under the bed. It doesn't have to be this way. Take them to a charity shop. Give them away. Swap them. Love your toys. And when you're done lovin', set them free.

Paula, I agree, Freecycle is wonderful.Alas I don't have many toys of my own any more, but with an eight year old girl in the house, there are plenty of toys around!
Every now and then we make a trip to a charity shop or give them to friends, but this time of year why not look for small treats that can go into an Operation Christmas Child shoebox?

This is a great way to recycle your toys and bring meaning and joy to a child less fortunate than yours. Plus it means you get to have a declutter before Christmas arrives again.

Bye bye barbie!
I'm re-decorating my room at the moment, and came across a box of toys i havn't set eyes on since i was about 8. So i donated them to one of my mums friends daughters, she was really happy, and the barbie has become her new companion :] 29 August 2010, 16:10The Sharing Shed
At my school we have a sharing shed.It is where you put things that you do not want and are in good condition.
Those things go to Dingwall Trust. Kids from 2- 16 that cannot live at home live there and we give all of our things to them.
I got lot of people in our school to bring in the old toys that they do not want anymore. we now cannot even shut the doors in the sharing shed.

www.reclaimfun.com project
We are running a pilot study for the reclaimfun project. Here unwanted but interested items are taken apart and explored. We test the science and engineering in them. We record the product in 3d, so preserving history. Then the item gets repaired, re-used or 'product digested' to metals and plastics, ready for recycleing. Please, before you bin it let us reclaim the fun out of it.
We recycled old toys, books, videos etc...
Students at The William Allitt Secondary School in Swadlincote, donated old toys, books & videos as well as unwanted gifts to be recycled and sold over two lunchtimes in March. All the proceeds (over £86!!) were split between the Haiti Disaster Fund and Barnardo's.
Another recycled/charity sale will run again in July - watch this space. 14 April 2010, 21:30
Recycling toys
My children are teenagers now but we have always recycled toys when we can. Their early stuff went to the playgroup I worked at, and later some went to school.Other items were given to charity shops or freiends with younger children. Some were car booted and selected new or nearly new items have been used to send in Xmas boxes or used in lucky dips for fundraising activities. Very few things actually went to landfill and as some of their toys were originally from jumble sales or car boots so
they had been previously recycled. 08 April 2010, 08:47
Time for a change...
Well all my old toys were just in boxes in my room, so I decided that i would give them all away. So i gave most of them to charity :) and my rooms a lot clearer which is always good, more space for clothes and shoes :) 22 March 2010, 18:03Recycled my son's toys
Once a year we have a good sort out and recycle his old toys. These either go to younger children we know or the local surestart centre, the nursery or the children's ward at the hospital. 18 March 2010, 16:08Recycle your toys
I gave a load of toys to my next door neighbour! It cleared some space in my attic and the toys went to a good home :) 14 March 2010, 18:34Nearly New Sales
nearly new sales are great way to recycle toys, teach children about clearing out there things and creating new space.. and allow your children to buy some toys at the sale. anything left over goes straight to the charity shop. so everyone wins.. 14 March 2010, 14:05Toy
Donated all the toys my kids have grown out of to a Toy Library. 10 March 2010, 11:18done

our tidbits are no longer infants & it was time to move the youngest into a toddler bed. we listed our baby items on kijiji instead of storing them as we knew there were folks who would have a need for them. toys/crib/change table have all moved on & up to other little people. 08 February 2010, 16:55I recycled my toys
I always recycle any toys I don't play withRecycled toys
I have a relative who works in a school so when i do not want my toys for the garden i give them to the school so they can use them for playtimes. Some of my old teddies, lego, plastic food goes to the school for the younger classes to play with. 02 December 2009, 17:03recycling TIGGER
When Ollie was born i gave him my musical TIGGER, aqnd we agreed that he'd pass him on to another baby when he stopeed playing with him. Now his brother Bruno is the proud carer. 18 November 2009, 12:20RECYCLE my old toys :)
So I finally cleared that whole wardrobe of old toys. Put them all into bin liners... there were 3 of them :) so lots of toys and then we took them to the nearby charity store. So not only do I have a new clear space in the wardrobe but someone else can benefit from toys that were of no use to me. 17 November 2009, 23:00ive did that thats me beatboxing legend

Me and my mum went down to the charity shop and got rid of it all! 13 November 2009, 17:06Attic clearance
I love this one, we are clearing out our attic in the hope that the man in red needs some space, also hoping for an extension. I intend keeping some toys 'cos they're always handy to have but those that we don't need - give to someone you think would like them - make their day - and their parents - especially if it's a grey, rainy day when they can't get out - new toys (2nd hand) there's nothing like it! 07 November 2009, 18:12Waste Wise.
If we ussually have broken toys we throw them away, right? But since my school launched a program called waste wise i gave my broken toys there. Waste Wise is kindda like a recycling campaign that we give recyclable stuff to the school and they sell it and using the funds for school use. 02 November 2009, 09:32Recycle your toys
Everyday we all go to the shop to buy our favourite toy. But when we've finished playing with it or hugging it. It gets all old and soggy. So you all throw it in the rubbish bin. And that then goes to the dump. If we recycle our toys not only does it help the enviroment. But we use it round and round again. So go on recycle your toys. And you don't know, but you could make a massive change. I care about the world, do you? 19 October 2009, 21:27toys
when i was younger every year i would go through my toys and fill a box of ones i didnt want anymore and took them to oxfam. 19 October 2009, 09:29Let other's benefit

I had a bear when I was a baby. When my brother was born, I had to give it to him. I am now 10 and he is 7 and he still makes it play a lullaby when he goes to sleep! 03 August 2009, 16:19

Freecycle
Freecycle is a brilliant way to pass on things which are still useable (even if not for their original purpose) - this includes games and toys of all descriptions (from babies to grown-ups) - big stuff that one can't take down the charity shop (sand pits, trampolines, climbing frames, play houses, bikes, toddler gyms), anything from unused to well-used with bits missing - someone may still want it for something. Everything is free and it's also wonderful to be picked to receive something. More information is at www.freecycle.org . 21 November 2008, 11:15Featured Stuff
