Turn off appliances at the mains

 
This action has been done 33,336 times which means a few flicked switches have cut carbon emissions by about 12,000.96 kg off our fuel bills.
 
How we did the maths
 

A TV that's on standby is still using a lot of electricity. If everyone in the UK turned off their TV properly every night it would save more than £66 million in electricity each year, which would floodlight 250,000 Premiership football matches. And that's just tellies.

Switching that little 'standby' light from green to red doesn't actually do you, or the planet, much good. It's still costing you money and wasting energy.

    Turn off things properly

    I know this well. Standby mode still wastes electricity so we should switch off completely, press Power button. Sometimes, when the weather is bad, it's better to unplug all the electric appliances. 20 August 2010, 02:18

    save the world

    I tried my hardest to turn of everything from the mains after i have used it. i got used to it and now i do it more often. this is also a effiecent way to save money so you should start turn of the mains after you have used it and SAVE THIS WORLD! it ohnestly not hard it only takes about 3 seconds to turn the mains off. 03 February 2010, 10:42

    We unplug.

    difficult

    These days, I make sure that the electricity connection to my laptop is always off and make sure that the main appliances in the house are off too :)

    Switch off!


    I hate it when people leave switches and plugs on when its not being used!
    we can save alot of money by switching them off.
    Try it your self see how much you can save! you can probably buy something that you have been saving for, i mean my oldest brother,21, has been dying to buy a car! But the problem is he leaves all his switches on un-used, he has an iphone and keeps the charger on! so i switch it off! so evry-one i advise anyone who is reading this to turn the switch off!
